I would like to see more math: resource:coal, total supply:, resource replenishment:, % of GDP (the Vikings critically depended on iron - swords and farming). For us it is oil. Oil will not JUST stop one day, we will steadily use more expensive extraction methods. The question is, how abrupt will the transition be and how dependent will we be at that moment.

Well, societies always have problems outside (nature and hostile humans) and inside (depletion of resources and waste products). The only answer is adaption. Also collapses ALWAYS happen after their peak, that's what makes the peak the peak.

@AmyK007 So true. The net is full of repugnant mixture of intollerance and stupidity. Too much little ego's and to little bon ton and politeness.

Collapse is a byproduct of unsustainable monetary systems. Global Capitalism

A bit sloppy. Seems to quote old legends as fact. For example, we don't really know the complexities between the Viking/Inuit relationship. Is there anything new or insightful here? Sounds like he just bangs through decades old theories.

@fringeelements @fringeelements I listened carefuly to what the man had to say. Wonder if you have an ideological commitment against govt. regulation, that 'served you well in the short term (like when govt regulation might have been a threat), but not in the long term' (ie Montana is being screwed, polluted and destroyed right under our noses).. Govt regulation is fine when it outlaws murder and rape, but bad when it outlaws the highly visible murder and rape of our Home??

@fringeelements in some areas of the market (like oil and natural gas) more government regulation is need to protect people and stop mega corporations from raping the land for their short term goals. |
